It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that I join the nation in mourning the passing of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, a distinguished statesman, and a towering figure in our country’s democratic journey.
I had the privilege of interacting with Rt. Hon. Odinga during my tenure as the Registrar of Political Parties, where he served as the Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). In all engagements, he demonstrated remarkable dedication to the ideals of democracy, political pluralism, and good governance. His sharp intellect, unwavering conviction, and deep commitment to Kenya’s unity and progress left a lasting impression on all who had the honor to work with him.
Rt. Hon. Odinga’s political life was defined by sacrifice, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of justice and inclusivity. His leadership inspired generations and helped shape Kenya’s multiparty democracy. Beyond politics, he will be remembered for his warmth, humility, and ability to bring people together across divides.
On behalf of myself and in my capacity as Commissioner of the IEBC, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the Odinga family, friends, the ODM fraternity, and all Kenyans who mourn this great loss. May his legacy continue to guide our nation toward unity, peace, and democratic maturity.
