Our Heroes, Our Pride, Our Kenya: A Mashujaa Day Tribute

On this Mashujaa Day, I want to celebrate all Kenyans whose courage, sacrifice, dedication, and hard work continue to shape the story of our beloved nation.

I pay tribute to the heroes who fought for our freedom, those who stood for justice and equality, and all who have contributed to building the Kenya we know today. Their sacrifices remind us that our nation's progress is built on courage, resilience, and a shared commitment to a better future.

I also want to celebrate the everyday heroes among us: our teachers, healthcare workers, farmers, security officers, public servants, entrepreneurs, young people, and every Kenyan who works tirelessly to improve the lives of others. From our homes and communities to our workplaces and institutions, every honest effort and every act of service contributes to our nation's growth.

As a Commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), I recognize the importance of protecting our democratic values and promoting electoral processes that enable every eligible Kenyan to participate meaningfully in shaping our country's future. A strong nation is built when we respect one another, embrace our diversity, uphold the rule of law, and recognize that every citizen has a role to play.

This Mashujaa Day, I encourage each of us to honour the legacy of our heroes not only through remembrance but also through our daily actions. Let us choose unity over division, service over self-interest, and hope over despair. Together, we can nurture a nation where every Kenyan feels valued, included, and empowered to contribute to our collective progress.

To every Kenyan, I want you to know that your contribution matters. Whether big or small, your efforts help shape the future of our nation. Let us continue working together towards a peaceful, united, inclusive, and prosperous Kenya that future generations will be proud to inherit.

Happy Mashujaa Day to all Kenyans! May the spirit of our heroes continue to inspire us to serve with integrity, live with purpose, and build our nation together.

With sincere regards,
Dr. Ann Nderitu, CBS
Commissioner, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
