Ol Kalou Heads to the Polls: Preparing for a Transparent and Credible By-Election

Ahead of the 16 July 2026 Ol Kalou Constituency Parliamentary By-Election, I joined my colleague, Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan, EBS, at the IEBC Constituency Tallying Centre in Ol Kalou to brief the media on the Commission’s state of preparedness for the election.

The briefing provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Commission’s commitment to delivering a free, fair, transparent, peaceful and credible election, while encouraging registered voters across Ol Kalou Constituency to exercise their democratic right responsibly and peacefully.

As part of the final preparations, election materials were distributed to polling officials for dispatch to their respective polling stations across the constituency. In keeping with the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the Returning Officer, in the presence of candidates, chief agents, security agencies and members of the media, supervised the opening of the sealed ballot paper pallets.

The verification exercise allowed stakeholders to confirm that the security seals were intact and that the ballot paper serial numbers corresponded with the designated polling stations. Such measures are important in safeguarding the integrity of election materials and building confidence among candidates, stakeholders and voters in the electoral process.

With the people of Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, preparing to elect their Member of the National Assembly, the Commission remained focused on its constitutional responsibility to safeguard the will of the people and ensure that every eligible voter could participate in a credible electoral process.

I encouraged all registered voters to turn out and vote peacefully and responsibly, and urged the public to rely on the Commission’s official communication channels for accurate, timely and verified information throughout the electoral process.
