Strengthening Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration Ahead of 2027

I joined colleagues at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for a two-day workshop to assess the implementation of Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR I), reflecting on the successes, challenges and lessons learnt to inform and strengthen the implementation of ECVR II.

The workshop provided an opportunity to critically review the progress made during ECVR I and identify areas requiring further improvement as the Commission continues preparations for the 2027 General Election.

Discussions focused on key thematic areas, including the policy and legal framework, quality assurance and supervision, budgeting and financing, supply chain and logistics, registration center planning and human resource management, voter education and communication, stakeholder engagement, KIEMS and ICT readiness, research and innovation, risk management, as well as data protection and information security.

While closing the workshop, Vice Chairperson Fahima Araphat Abdallah, OGW, emphasized the importance of applying the lessons learnt from ECVR I to strengthen the implementation of ECVR II. She noted that the Commission will build on the successes achieved, address identified challenges and enhance coordination and preparedness for the next phase.

She further assured participants that the Commission will continue working to mobilize the necessary funds and resources to support ECVR II and facilitate its effective implementation.

The discussions reaffirmed the importance of continuous assessment, innovation, coordination and adequate preparedness in strengthening voter registration processes and ensuring that eligible citizens are able to participate in the electoral process.

As the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election, such engagements remain critical in strengthening electoral preparedness and ensuring that lessons from previous phases translate into practical improvements.
