IEBC, Judiciary Commit to Strengthening Collaboration Ahead of 2027 General Election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson, Erastus Ethekon, and members of the Commission today paid a courtesy call to the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Hon. Lady Justice Martha Koome, EGH. The two institutions deliberated on key matters of mutual interest that will shape the 2027 General Election.

IEBC emphasized its commitment to strengthening mutual understanding and synergy with the Judiciary, particularly through the Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE), to ensure fair and timely resolution of disputes during the pre-election, election, and post-election periods.

The Chief Justice, alongside Supreme Court judges Hon. Justice Njoki Ndungu, CBS (Chairperson of JCE), and Hon. Justice Daniel Musinga (Vice-Chairperson JCE), congratulated the IEBC team on their appointments and pledged full support in delivering their mandate.

To bolster preparations for the 2027 polls, the IEBC plans to revise electoral laws and regulations, enhance collaboration with JCE to establish a more effective Electoral Dispute Resolution (EDR) framework, develop training programmes on electoral processes and dispute resolution, build the capacity of law enforcement agencies, strengthen stakeholder and government engagements, and sensitize Judicial Officers on electoral processes—particularly the allocation of party lists.
