IEBC Strengthens Media Partnership Ahead of 2027 Elections with Landmark MoU

Mar 27, 2026

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) held a high-level breakfast meeting to discuss the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise and formalize a strategic partnership with the Kenya Media Sector Working Group (KMSWG) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement brings together key media stakeholders to promote accurate, timely, and responsible election reporting ahead of the 2027 General Election.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon noted that the partnership strengthens collaboration as the Commission prepares for the ECVR launch on March 30, 2026, in Shimoni, Kwale County. He emphasized transparency, access to credible electoral information, and training for journalists to enhance coverage of electoral processes.

Media leaders welcomed the initiative while raising concerns about rising misinformation and the challenges of the digital landscape, including deepfakes. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to accountability, combating fake news, and building public trust in the electoral process.
