I joined the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Erastus Ethekon, HSC, fellow Commissioners and the Commission Secretariat at the official launch of the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) Strategic Plan 2025–2028, themed *“Repositioning ORPP: Deepening Governance and Inclusion.”* The launch, presided over by the Attorney General, Hon. Dorcas Oduor, SC, EGH, marked an important milestone in shaping the future of political party regulation and democratic governance in Kenya.
In his remarks, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon observed that a strategic plan is more than an institutional roadmap—it represents a commitment to effective public service and to the institutions that underpin Kenya’s constitutional democracy. He highlighted the critical role of ORPP in ensuring that political parties operate within the law, uphold democratic values and contribute to peaceful, credible and inclusive electoral processes.
The Registrar of Political Parties, John Cox Lorionokou, expressed appreciation to stakeholders, particularly the IEBC, for their continued collaboration and support. He noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing Kenya’s democratic journey, while the new Strategic Plan provides a framework for enhancing institutional accountability, regulatory effectiveness and responsiveness to the aspirations of the Kenyan people.
I was deeply honoured by the Registrar’s recognition of my contribution in initiating the development of this Strategic Plan. It was particularly gratifying to see an initiative that began with a vision evolve into a comprehensive framework that will guide ORPP’s work over the next four years.
The launch was a reminder of the value of institutional continuity, collaboration and shared purpose in advancing democratic governance. The continued partnership between IEBC and ORPP will remain important in promoting accountable political parties, inclusive participation and electoral processes that reflect the democratic aspirations of the people of Kenya.
