IEBC Updates National Assembly Liaison Committee on 2027 Election Preparedness

I joined the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson, Erastus Edung Ethekon, during an engagement with the National Assembly Liaison Committee, where the Commission presented an update on its preparedness for the 2027 General Election.

During the engagement, the Chairperson highlighted the Commission’s ongoing preparations and assured the Committee that IEBC is implementing a clearly defined electoral calendar while undertaking critical activities to ensure that key legal, operational, financial and logistical requirements are addressed within the prescribed timelines.

The preparations for the 2027 General Election cover several critical areas, including voter registration, electoral boundaries, voter education, candidate registration, procurement and logistics, election technology, training, stakeholder engagement, security coordination and electoral dispute resolution.

These activities are anchored in the Commission’s Election Operations Plan, which operationalizes the IEBC Strategic Plan 2024–2029 and provides a structured framework for implementing the electoral cycle Programme.

The engagement also underscored the importance of continuous collaboration and stakeholder engagement throughout the electoral cycle in strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in the electoral process.

The Chairperson reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering a credible, transparent, inclusive, accessible and efficient electoral process in the 2027 General Election, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable electoral laws.

It was an important engagement as the Commission continues to advance preparations towards the 2027 General Election.
