A Credible Election Begins Now: Reflections on IEBC’s 2027 Election Preparations.

I joined IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and my fellow Commissioners in an important meeting with Deputy Directors of Electoral Operations from all 47 counties to assess our level of preparedness and strengthen coordination ahead of the 2027 General Election.

For me, preparing for the next General Election is not something we can afford to leave until the last minute. The work we do now will go a long way in determining how effectively we deliver our mandate and maintain public confidence in the electoral process.

During the meeting, we discussed how to translate the Commission’s Election Operations Plan into practical work plans at the county and constituency levels. Our discussions covered key areas, including voter registration and education, staffing, training, technology deployment and logistics. Each of these areas requires proper planning, close coordination and timely action.

We also emphasised the importance of identifying challenges early, meeting statutory timelines and ensuring that approved electoral procedures are implemented consistently across the country. As a Commission, we must remain focused, accountable and committed to doing things the right way.

The Chairperson challenged the officers to demonstrate strong leadership, uphold professionalism, manage resources responsibly and maintain constructive engagement with stakeholders. These are important expectations as we continue preparing for an election that requires the collective effort of everyone involved.

I believe that proper preparation is one of the most important steps towards delivering a credible election. We must be willing to address gaps as they arise, learn from experience and ensure that our plans translate into real progress on the ground.

As we look ahead to 2027, I remain committed to working with my fellow Commissioners, the Commission’s staff and other stakeholders to strengthen our readiness and ensure that we deliver on our mandate to the people of Kenya.

The journey to 2027 is already underway, and the work we put in today matters. Our focus must remain on preparedness, accountability and delivering an electoral process that Kenyans can trust.
